2006 SEAT Cupra Championship

The SEAT Cupra Championship makes an appearance on the BTCC bill for the third consecutive season. Last year saw the first time that individual teams ran the cars as opposed to SEAT Sport UK themselves, with former BTCC driver Tom Boardman showing how much he had improved as a driver by taking the title and with it the £100,000 prize for his family-run team, Special Tuning UK. 2006 sees the final year of the current shape Leon Cupra and the biggest field in the history of the championship is expected, as entrants become more aware of the big cash rewards for winning. The four top teams in the standings at the end of the season will claim the cash prizes and the top four drivers will all get a test drive in a SEAT Sport UK Leon BTCC car.

2006 sees the Clio Cup winning team of 2005, Total Control Racing enter a very strong four car lineup, which should include a couple of former Clio champions. They will be out to beat a multi-car entry from reigning SEAT Cupra champions Special Tuning UK, running several second year drivers from their Lancashire base. British Formula 3 team Edenbridge Racing will dovetail their campaign in that series with a two car effort featuring last season's third and fourth placed drivers, Tom Ferrier and Carl Breeze. 2005 runner-up Mat Jackson continues with his family-run car, along with many more returnees from last year.

2005 Summary

Tom Boardman had a very consistent season, winning from fellow former BTCC racers Mat Jackson, Tom Ferrier and Carl Breeze.
