If you’re a Twitter user, you’ll understand the concept of ‘trends’. If you were to look at what has trended so far in the 2011 BTCC season, ‘turbo engines’ would be near the top.

Engines are complicated, especially if you’re not from a technical background. That’s why our latest article (Tech focus: Turbo engines explained) attempts to get under the skin the issue, by returning to basics and asking the boss of Mountune, David Mountain, to explain just why a turbo engine has such an advantage.

Airwaves Racing celebrate at Brands Hatch

Airwaves Racing celebrate at Brands Hatch

It’s always special to start the season at Brands Hatch and we always want to do well at our home circuit. For me it was a bit of a pressure release and it was great to get some strong results.

Mat did a superb a job at Brands and I’m sure he will keep doing a superb job, which vindicates my decision to nail him down as early as possible last year to stay with us and not let him go and drive one of those Chevrolets.

Steven Kane at Brands Hatch, May 2010

Steven Kane in qualifying at Brands Hatch

So, here we are after qualifying at Brands Hatch. In Carrera Cup we had a very good day. We qualified on pole in each class. Touring car wise, we’ve got a bit of work to do. I don’t quite know what happened today. We didn’t quite hit the window we were expecting to hit.

Rockingham was ok. It was nice to bank more points, it was nice to come out of the place with Airwaves BMW still leading the championship. It was nice to have two podiums.
