Airwaves BMW drivers Jonny Adam and Rob Collard are running dramatically different set-ups heading into this afternoon’s qualifying session at Brands Hatch – but both seem to be providing plenty of pace.
“Jonny’s on a qualifying set-up while my car is on more of a race set-up”, said Collard while tucking into a bowl of pasta at lunchtime. “The qualifying set-up is my set-up from when we tested here a few weeks ago. We know it’s slightly quicker – it can probably do a 48.8. It’s a lot of work to switch from one to the other, so I’m staying on the race set-up. We’ve seen what it can do this morning, but we’re just not sure whether VX or someone else can just turn it up a notch for qualifying. I’ve never had a qualified pole position in the BTCC, but I’d give up pole today for a win tomorrow.”
The Brands Hatch track has dried out after this morning’s damp start and the sun is shining ahead of qualifying at 3.45pm. Yvan Muller’s long-standing lap record (48.942 set in qualifying on 15th April 2001) looks to be under threat, with Rob’s timesheet-topping lap in free practice this morning coming in a thousandth of a second quicker.
