I’m pretty pleased with sixth place in qualifying, even if I had to do it twice! I was sixth when I lost my times for failing the ride height check and I then went back out again and got back up to seventh, which became sixth when Giovanardi was thrown out.
We lost our times just before the halfway point in the session, so I had enough time to get back out again, but I was worried about the big black cloud I could see up above. It was spitting over part of the track and I needed my wipers on at one point, so I was concerned I might not get the chance to set another quick lap.
Fortunately I did get a good lap in, but it just meant I had to set my time when the track wasn’t at its quickest. I think most of the other times were set early on in the session.
Looking at the cars around me on the grid, I hope I should be able to get past Plato and Jelley at the start – although Plato has been making good starts in the Chevrolet. I think we will struggle in the first few laps because it’s hard for us to get heat into the tyres and the front wheel drive cars tend to have an advantage, so we’ll definitely be under pressure early on.
I said I’d be happy with top eight and we start off in the top six, so it’s been a good day. If we can carry that on tomorrow then hopefully we can come away with some good results.
