| Jason Plato has become the first driver to test a 2001-spec
BTCC challenger, in Albacete, Spain. Plato and the Vauxhall team tested on Thursday and Friday, and will be
joined by Yvan Muller to continue the programme on Monday. The first test is really just being used to check
the car runs ok, and to test out some of the (new for 2001) standardised BTC Touring parts.
Plato described the Astra as "A good little race car", and was pleased with the progress made, despite
the adverse weather conditions. The car is by no-means finished, with more development of various parts
in progress, and another version of the new engine on the way, however, Vauxhall feel that they have the
advantage by being the first team to get their car out on the track.
