| Phil Bennett is the latest driver to sign a deal for the
2001 BTCC season, and is perhaps the most unexpected so far. The 29 year old is going to be in an Astra
in the Touring Class of the championship. There have been numerous rumours about where the former Renault
Spider racer would be racing, but until now, there had been no signs of a deal with the Vauxhall team.
Bennett will form part of the much rumoured Triple Eight "satellite team", and will be
joined by James Thompson. The news helps to build what is gradually becoming a clearer picture of who will
be in the BTCC this year.
