MG have given assurances that they will be competing in the British Touring Car Championship as planned in 2002.
They are currently involved in a High Court dispute with car builders Lola who built the MG ZS model which contested the final three events of the 2001 BTCC. MG claims that as they funded the work they own the intellectual property rights to the car, however Lola dispute this and are prepared to go to the high court to prove their case.
MG is thought to want West Surrey Racing (WSR) to take over full control of the design and production of the car, however if Lola were to win their case WSR would have redesign the touring car again to avoid using components penned by Lola.
