Right on schedule, the new Touring Car challenger from Team PETRONAS Syntium Proton (Team PSP) ran for the first time on Monday 12 February in Norfolk near Team PSP’s workshops. Both of Team PSP’s drivers were on hand to sample the car for the first time.

David Leslie said: “This is the first time in my experience that a race car has fired up on schedule. All credit to the team – a very encouraging performance”.

Phil Bennett said: “My first impressions of the car are very positive. Hats off to all the guys from Malaysia and the UK who’ve really pulled together. Now we need miles on the car – we know we have a lot to learn.”

Team PETRONAS Syntium Proton will officially unveil the 2002 BTCC challenger in Kuala Lumpur later this month.
