| 20 year-old BTCC driver, Gareth Howell, from Kent, has been nominated for membership of the BRDC 'Rising Stars' scheme. Membership of this initiative is strictly by invitation only, and as the title suggests, drivers are selected based on their ability, and the likelihood of them achieving future success.
Members of the Rising Star scheme will continue to be assessed by the BRDC Board of Directors, and their progress monitored. If a sufficient display of talent and potential is displayed, then they are likely to be recommended to be elected to full BRDC membership.
Howell finished fifth in the BTCC Production class in 2001, and has previously competed in the Ford Credit Fiesta Zetec Championsip, becoming the youngest ever race winner in the series during the 1999 season. He is expected to be confirmed alongside Colin Turkington when full details of MG's 2002 campaign are unveiled on Thursday
