Former World Superbike rider, Aaron Slight, has been confirmed as the driver of the second Barwell Motorsport Vauxhall Astra Coupe for the 2002 BTCC season. The experienced New-Zealander, who made his BTCC debut with the Peugeot Sport team in 2001 will drive alongside 16 year old BTCC debutant Tom Chilton.
Slight commented: "I was starting to look at other competitive motorsport programs such as ASCAR, assuming all the top competitive seats in the BTCC had gone! That’s until I got the text message in NZ from Tubbs in the UK."
"I was excited by the opportunity to be able to be in a Vauxhall Astra, which is the car to beat in the series! Also to be associated with a sponsor such as Kaliber which has been in the BTCC for years. I am rapt!"
The deal was agreed by Barwell Motorsport directors Mark Lemmer and Chris Needell with Slight's manager, Tubbs Wanigasekera, early last week, pending Aaron's arrival in the UK. He joined the team at Snetterton on Saturday for his first taste of the car.
