Tom Chilton, the youngest British Touring Car driver in the history of the Championship, passed his driving test last Saturday at his first attempt.
Tom Chilton learnt to drive with Driver training experts BSM who are one of Tom’s commercial partners for this season. Although, Tom had had considerable experience in competing in T-Cars he was aware of the importance of driving lessons, as there was everything to learn about driving a car on the public roads.
On passing his test Tom’s instructor David Hughes, who has been an instructor with BSM in Reigate for five years said:- “Tom was a really quick learner. He only needed twelve hours of lessons to get a good grasp of the skills he needed to adapt to driving safely and responsibly on public roads”.
Tom himself was delighted to have passed his driving test:- “I would like to thank my instructor David who has been very supportive. He was a brilliant instructor who knew exactly what I needed to do.” Tom later added-: “Passing my driving test was every bit as exciting as coming third in my first touring car race.”
You can see Tom race in the Green Flag 2002 MSA British Touring Car Championship this forthcoming weekend at Croft Circuit, near Darlington in North Yorkshire.
