Edenbridge racing to continue in Production

14/10/2002

2002 Production Championship runners-up, Edenbridge Racing, will continue in the the class with their pair of BMW 320i cars in 2003.

Boss of the Kent based team, Peter Briggs, had hoped to move up in to the Touring class next year, but was unable to secure the BTC-T Honda Civics that he wanted to do this.

He commented: "If the Honda Tourers had been available we would have run them as we would have had equal equipment. However with Production racing in with the Tourers again, it is better to be a leading team and driver in Production than at the back of Touring with the customer cars that are available."

Norman Simon contested the entire 2002 BTCC season using just one engine, and won more races than any other driver in the Production class.

Edenbridge will run a single BMW at the Macau event in November. The car will be piloted by 17-year old Tom Chilton, who tested the car at Snetterton last Thursday, setting a time that would have put him in the top four on the grid at the BTCC meeting earlier in the year.
