Ice cool Muller victorious once again
Whilst the off-season lingers in Britain, Vauxhall Motorsport’s Yvan Muller has once again taken to the ice in his homeland, France. His phenomenal record has seen him crowned champion of the Trophée Andros ice racing series for the past 7 years, however this winter Muller has made just one appearance on ice – but a successful one nonetheless!
The ‘ice king’ as he is known in the French press, took to the track the past weekend (1/2 February) for the Chamonix 24 Hour event. Driving a Seat Cordoba, and partnered by fellow countryman Gilles Stievenard, Muller cruised to victory at the conclusion of the 2-leg final. It was a 1-2 for Seat, with Mark Duez and Patrick Herbert in 2nd. The result marks a record breaking 5th victory at the event for Muller, who has chosen not to compete in the 2002/2003 Trophée Andros, leaving the track clear for a new name on the trophy – for the first time since 1995! He will return for the 2003/2004 season however, spearheading the entry of Kia to the series.
Speaking to the French media, Muller had the following to say about the forthcoming BTCC season: “I feel at home in Britain and I will do everything possible to win another title for the Vauxhall Motorsport team.” And speaking about the 2003/2004 ice-racing season: “It’s still a long way off but I think I’ll be back on the ice a bit more. The participation of Alain Prost in the Trophée Andros this year is a major boost for a series which was in need of it!”
