26/03/2003 - Former British Touring Car Champion John Cleland led the tributes to Will Hoy as a congregation of more than 750 gathered at St Lukes Church, London to celebrate the life of the popular racer, mentor and family-man. Cleland recalled his fond memories of time he spent with Hoy, both on and off the racetrack.
The service opened with the moving thoughts of Will’s three children, followed by an address from friend, Sarah Greene. Combined with further readings from friends and family and a number of hymns and songs, the service lasted just over an hour.
Sir Jackie Stewart, Vic Lee and Matt Neal were among a strong showing from the motorsport world, whilst two of Will’s previous cars were on display outside the church. The service offered a suitable tribute to Hoy, whose presence will be sorely missed by all that knew him.
Will Hoy died shortly before Christmas last year aged 50, after a brain tumour. He leaves a wife and three children.
