Brands Hatch last weekend saw Edenbridge Racing unveil their stunning new ETCC spec BMW and it was not long before it attracted admiring glances from around the paddock.
Having competed in both the British and European Touring car championships with the BMW 320i model, team-boss Peter Briggs is keen to continue the team’s association with the German marque. The team were runners up in the Production class in 2002, and have been victims of considerable bad luck again in 2003, denying Michael Bentwood the chance to stamp his authority on the championship. Current regulations also do not allow the team to maximise the potential of the car, with engine restrictions playing a major role.
The new car is based on the BMW E46 model, and is the same as those already competing in the ETCC.
Edenbridge Racing is the first of the current BTCC teams to unveil a car built to ETCC specifications, perhaps leading the way in determining the future of the series. With ETCC cars eligible to compete in the BTCC from 2004, expect to see a lot more of the likes of Edenbridge’s new BMW!
