Mat Jackson wins first HiQ 'champagne moment'

Fri 11th July 2008 The bubbly is guaranteed to be flowing in Mat Jackson’s BMW Dealer Team garage at Snetterton this weekend, after the star won HiQ’s inaugural champagne moment award.

Jackson has scooped the sponsor’s unique new prize thanks to his imperious drive in the wet weather at Croft, when he overtook 17 cars in one race to finish second.

HiQ launched the initiative in a bid to interact with spectators, who were invited to log onto HiQ’s official website, www.hiqonline.co.uk and vote for their star performer from the action at Croft.

A total of 350 fans registered, with a whopping 67 per cent voting for Jackson, who handsomely beat Colin Turkington into second place, who polled 11 per cent of votes for his two victories.

Jacky Perry of Wisbech, who logged her details onto the website, was picked at random to present the magnum of champagne to Mat this Sunday (13th) and complimentary tickets to a BTCC race of her choice will also be provided as a prize.

HiQ is delighted with the success of the inaugural champagne moment award and is now urging fans to log on and vote for their favourite driver from Snetterton, once the action concludes on Sunday evening.

Jacky said: “It is brilliant to have won this award. It was impossible to vote for anyone else really. Mat was on incredible form in terrible conditions at Croft, and I can’t wait to present him with his prize on Sunday.”

Matt said: “It’s lovely to win HiQ’s first ever champagne moment accolade and even nicer to think that so many fans voted for me.

“It was nice to make a big impact at Croft and I want to build on it. If I had an extra half-a-lap out there in race two, then who knows? It was a great race and it’s great that I will have something to remember it by.”

HiQ’s BTCC spokesman James Bailey said: “We are delighted with the success of our first champagne moment.

“We want our sponsorship to leave a positive impression on the people that matter at the BTCC – the fans.

“There are still plenty of rounds remaining, so there are lots of opportunities for fans to get involved.”
