The bubbly is guaranteed to be flowing in Steven Kane’s garage at Oulton Park this weekend, after the star won HiQ’s second champagne moment award.

Kane has scooped the sponsor’s unique new prize thanks to his imperious drive at Snetterton, when he defied the odds to finish second in the third race and give his Motorbase team its best ever finish in the BTCC.

HiQ launched the initiative in a bid to interact with spectators, who were invited to log onto HiQ’s official website, www.hiqonline.co.uk and vote for their star performer from the action at Snetterton.

Hundreds of fans registered, with 52 per cent voting for Kane, who narrowly beat Tom Onslow-Cole into second place, who polled 33 per cent of votes for his two top six finishes.

Mark Jones of St Helens, who logged his details onto the website, was picked at random to present the magnum of champagne to Steven this Sunday and complimentary tickets to a BTCC race of his choice will also be provided as a prize.

HiQ is delighted with the success of the inaugural champagne moment award and is now urging fans to log on and vote for their favourite driver from Oulton Park, once the action concludes on Sunday evening.

Steven Kane said: “First of all I would like to say a big thank you to all the fans who took part in the competition and who voted for me.

“It's a great honour to receive this award and with it recognition for what we've been doing on the track. The Motorbase team has been working exceptionally hard over the past few events to improve the car and that has helped both Rob Collard and I perform to the best of our ability.

“I hope everyone who enjoyed the last round at Snetterton will continue to follow the championship and Motorbase Performance team for the rest of the season.''

HiQ’s BTCC spokesman James Bailey said: “We are delighted with the success of our champagne moment initiative.

“We want our sponsorship to leave a positive impression on the people that matter at the BTCC – the fans.

“There are still three rounds remaining after Sunday, so there are lots of opportunities for fans to get involved.”
