BTCC News | Wed 7th January 2009

The Rockingham circuit will host the 2009 HiQ MSA British Touring Car Championship's annual Media Day event - on Thursday 19 March.

Rockingham to host 2009 BTCC media day

This will be the third year running that Rockingham, near Corby in Northamptonshire, has staged what is the official season launch of Britain's premier motor racing championship.

Teams will formally reveal their cars, sponsors and driver line-ups and it also marks an opportunity for fans to see them in action for the first time as they take to the track for a test session during the afternoon.

Rockingham has confirmed its gates will be open to the public from 1.00pm on Media Day. Admission will be free and fans will also be able to gain access to the BTCC paddock to seek out the star drivers for autographs. Public access to the pit lane, however, is strictly forbidden and restricted to team personnel and officials only.

Last year some 1500 people took advantage of Media Day to capture their first glimpse of the teams, drivers and cars as they revved up for the forthcoming season.

Fans will also be able to purchase tickets to Rockingham's BTCC rounds later in the year (Sunday 20 September) at the discounted rate of £23 per adult - a saving of 20 per cent on gate admission prices and without having to pay any booking fees. Children aged 15 and under will be admitted free to the race meeting.

Rockingham has also confirmed that its diner - with new and improved catering facilities - will be open on the day.

Rockingham director Charlotte Orton said: "We are extremely proud to be asked to host the official BTCC Media Day for a third consecutive year. This is an excellent opportunity for us to remind people of the fantastic facilities at Rockingham.

"We are very passionate about making motor sport accessible to everyone and this event is the perfect example. It is an excellent way for everyone to prepare for the new season.

"Media day visitors will be able to purchase tickets for the BTCC meeting at Rockingham without having to pay a booking fee. We hope members of the media and the public take full advantage of this event."
