Plato confirms full-season BTCC assault Plato confirms full-season BTCC assault

Fri 24th April 2009 Jason Plato will be on the grid at Thruxton this weekend - and at all of the 2009 HiQ MSA British Touring Car Championship meetings - after confirming he will mount a full championship challenge this year.

The 2001 BTCC champion will continue to drive an RML-prepared Chevrolet Lacetti, that will be entered under the name ‘Racing Silverline’. He will be joined at Thruxton this weekend by Mat Jackson, in a second RML Chevrolet.

Plato’s deal to race at the opening rounds of the season at Brands Hatch in early April only came about in the days leading up to the event, and a full-season campaign was far from certain. However, the necessary funding has now been secured and Plato will be hunting another win at Thruxton this weekend.

Plato said: "Thruxton is of course a very fast circuit and if it was a drag race then the Chevrolet would be looking very good, but we don't just go in a straight line - we go round and round so we have to get the car working through the corners as well. On paper, though, Thruxton should suit the Chevrolet."

Confirmation that Plato will be on the grid brings the number of past and present BTCC champions that will be racing at Thruxton to four. Reigning champion Fabrizio Giovanardi lines up for Vauxhall, as does double champion Matt Neal, while James Thompson makes his BTCC return with Team Dynamics.
