The reigning champion set a best lap of 1:13.138 in the morning session, which was enough to ensure he was quickest when the day drew to a close, albeit by less than two tenths from Team Dynamics’ James Thompson.
Giovanardi was joined at the test – ahead of the BTCC’s visit to Snetterton on 1/2 August – by VXR teammates Matt Neal and Andrew Jordan, both Team Dynamics drivers Thompson and David Pinkney, BMW runners Team RAC and Airwaves BMW, plus Paul O’Neill, Harry Vaulkhard, John George and Martin Johnson.
It was a rain-interrupted day that saw a heavy crash for Team RAC’s Stephen Jelley and engine dramas for Paul O’Neill and Harry Vaulkhard.
A further official BTCC test session takes place at Rockingham, next Monday, 13th July.
