A statement issued today (Friday, 23 April) on behalf of Glew and his sponsor, WD-40, read:
Financially, the loss of Triple Eight Race Engineering team main sponsor UNIQ leaves Phil in an untenable situation.
Phil's sponsor, WD-40 will continue to support him and hopes to work with him again in the future.
Head of UK Marketing for WD-40, David Whittome said: "We have supported Phil Glew for the last two years, first in the Renault Clio Cup, which he won, and now in BTCC.
"We fully support Phil Glew and recognise his fantastic potential in motor sport and will be working hard to find ways in which we can continue to work with him in the future."
Glew said: "I'm devastated to be out of the car at this early stage in the season. My main efforts are now focused on putting together a concrete package which suits WD-40, myself, and our other sponsors to enable us to begin racing again and continue our fantastic relationship."
Glew was set to line-up alongside James Nash at Triple Eight for the Rockingham races this weekend, after it was announced that the former Chevrolet driver would replace double-champion Fabrizio Giovanardi.
