Race one winner Tom Onslow-Cole led the early stages of the race, with Gordon Shedden, Rob Collard and Tom Chilton following him away from the line. There was early controversy as Chilton hit the back of Collard at Island, spinning the WSR BMW. Collard could only rejoin in last position, while Chilton continued.
Plato emerged from the first lap melee in fifth position and then inherited fourth when Shedden retired with a driveshaft problem on lap two. That left Onslow-Cole leading from Jackson and Chilton.
Plato was soon past Chilton and on the back of Jackson’s BMW. The pair looked likely to resume their race one battle, but Plato made light work of the BMW to go second. It then took just a few laps for Plato to move into the lead, with a tap to the back of Onslow-Cole’s Focus at Island before he moved ahead.
Meanwhile, it was another disappointing race for Andrew Jordan and Paul O’Neill. Jordan retired on lap three while O’Neill failed to start for the second race in a row.
Once Plato had the lead, he enjoyed a relatively straightforward run to the flag. Matt Neal ensured the Chevrolet driver would not gain too great an advantage in the championship, passing Onslow-Cole to move up to second.
At the chequered flag, it was victory for Plato, ahead of Neal and Onslow-Cole. Jackson and Onslow-Cole finished fourth and fifth respectively for Airwaves BMW. Chilton ended the race in sixth, with James Nash seventh and Tom Boardman eighth.
David Pinkney had ninth place exiting the final corner, but lost a drag race to the line with Alex MacDowall. It was to prove an important switch, with the top nine finishers being reversed to form the grid for race three, handing pole position to MacDowall.
