The pair set their times early in the 30-minute session and never looked like coming under serious pressure. Alex MacDowall and Jason Plato were closest to the Fords, sharing the second row for Silverline Chevrolet.
Tom Onslow-Cole said: “It’s a fantastic job by Team Aon. We’ve all been working so hard on the car all year, it’s great that it’s all coming together now. We had a difficult free practice one where we did a whole programme of tests that didn’t work, so we knew what not to do. It got better in FP2 and that carried over into qualifying. I think the key was getting the lap in early.”
Onslow-Cole’s pole position is his second of the year and Team Aon’s fifth, with only Alex MacDowall and Gordon Shedden having kept the LPG-powered Focus pair off the top spot.
Matt Neal will start Sunday’s first race from fifth, with Andrew Jordan the first of the NGTC-engined runners in sixth. Paul O’Neill will line up seventh for Team Sunshine.co.uk, ahead of Rob Collard, James Nash and Gordon Shedden.
Round 19 of the 2010 Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship is scheduled to get underway at 11.45 on Sunday.
