Jordan ends season with victory

BTCC News | Sun 10th October 2010

Pirtek Racing's Andrew Jordan claimed his second victory of the year in the final race of the 2010 Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship at Brands Hatch.

Jason Plato may have taken the drivers' title after race two, but there were still others to be decided, including the Independents' Championship.

Jordan started from pole position after the top seven finishers from race two were reversed to form the grid. The Vectra led away from the line, in front of Steven Kane and Tom Chilton.

Just as in race two, there was an early safety car period. This time it was caused by Lea Wood's Honda Integra blowing its engine and depositing oil on the track. There was also an early end to the race for Matt Neal, whose Honda Civic suffered a CV joint failure at the start of the race.

The race resumed quickly and Jordan made the most of the restart to open up an extended lead over Kane in second. The Airwaves BMW driver in turn found himself under pressure from Chilton.

Behind the top three, Rob Collard led the chasing pack, with Paul O'Neill, Jason Plato and Mat Jackson in close proximity.

Jackson passed O'Neill for fifth on lap 12, but there was little time for the Airwaves BMW driver to make any further progress before the safety car was deployed for a second time. It was caused by his teammate Ben Collins landing in the gravel at Paddock Hill Bend after suffering a puncture.

There were 11 laps remaining when the race resumed again. And for the second time in succession, Jordan managed to open up a sizeable lead at the restart. However, Steven Kane was soon on his tail and the pair spent the last few laps running nose-to-tail.

Kane made several attempts to take the lead, but a slight error at Druids on the last lap cost him his last chance of taking victory, and with it his chances of winning the Independents title

Jordan held on to take his second victory, just ahead of Kane. Tom Chilton finished third, claiming the Independents' title in the process.

Fourth place went to Mat Jackson, with Paul O'Neill rounding out a strong weekend in fifth. Rob Collard rounded out the season with a sixth place finish, ahead of James Nash, Gordon Shedden and the newly crowned Plato. Sam Tordoff took the final championship point.
