It was a second consecutive lights-to-flag win for Plato and while Matt Neal and Gordon Shedden managed to score points this time, they had to settle for seventh and eighth places respectively.
Plato started from pole as a result of winning the first race and he led away from the line, ahead of Mat Jackson and Alex MacDowall. In Plato’s favour was the fact that Jackson spent most of his race watching his mirrors and defending rather than challenging for the lead. That meant it was a relatively straightforward win for Plato – his eighth of the season.
Plato said: “It all stems from yesterday. The car is beautifully set up, which makes my job realy easy. Combined with a bit of misfortune for the Hondas, that’s meant we’ve had a great couple of races.”
Behind Plato, Jackson took second place, just as in the first race. However, both MacDowall and subsequently Tom Onslow-Cole made their presence felt behind the Airwaves Racing Ford. Onslow-Cole kept Jackson on his toes for much of the race, but couldn’t find a way past.
After losing second to Onslow-Cole, MacDowall ran third until lap 10, when he left the track in a cloud of smoke at Stirling’s – his Chevrolet Cruze ending up on the grass and depositing oil on the track.
While Plato, Jackson and Onslow-Cole filled the podium, Paul O’Neill was not far behind for GoMobileUK.com with Tech-Speed. He challenged Onslow-Cole in the closing stages but had to settle for fourth. Tom Chilton was fifth ahead of James Nash in sixth. Neal and Shedden were seventh and eighth, with Andy Neate and Nick Foster rounding out the top ten.
