Series director Alan Gow has decided to make use of the regulation that allows for the base weight of BTCC cars to be revised up to seven times over the course of the season.
The World Touring Car spec SEAT Toledo Cupras started the 2005 season with a minimum race weight of 1140kgs, compared to 1150kgs for the BTCC spec vehicles, including the Team Halfords Honda Integras and the VX Racing Astra Sport Hatch models.
Following the opening meeting of the season, the WTCC-spec machines were granted a 40kg reduction, making their base weight 1100kgs.
The latest move sees a further 15kgs taken from the SEATs, dropping their minimum race weight (excluding success ballast) to 1085kgs.
SEAT's lead driver Jason Plato has been among the most vocal over the course of the season, expressing his lack of contentment at the weight equalisation employed by Gow and his team.
The weight reduction also applies to the HPI Racing/Friends Reunited Lexus of Richard Williams and Ian Curley.
The difference in base weights between the BTCC and WTCC (also known as Super 2000) cars, is intended to compensate for the mechanical variations between the two sets of regulations.
