Stars queuing up for Masters Race

BTCC News | Mon 14th June 2004

Despite being announced less than a week ago, the end of season ‘Masters Race’ planned for Donington Park already has drivers lining up to take part. BTCC supremo Alan Gow has been inundated with enquiries from drivers since the news came out, and demand is already outstripping supply.

“There will be eighteen cars”, explained Gow. “The race will be for all the BTCC champions since 1990, and a few guests.”

“A lot of drivers have already confirmed. People like Paul Radisich have said they’re coming back for it. We hope to have certain household names as well.”

The lucky few who get the chance to race at Donington will not have long to get to grips with the Seat Cupra ahead of the race, which is sure to add to the excitement even more.

“They will get two half-hour sessions on the Saturday, and then it will be a 20-lap ‘go for it boys’ race”, added Gow.

The Masters Race looks set to boast a grid full of proven talent, the likes of which has not been seen in the UK since the Toca Shootout races of the early nineties. It goes without saying that a repeat of the 90,000 crowd that witnessed the famous Mansell vs Needell clash could do no harm for the revival of the BTCC…
