Four drivers set for Carrera Cup GB debut at Silverstone

Porsche Carrera Cup GB News | Fri 22nd August 2008

Four drivers will make their debut in the Porsche Carrera Cup GB during rounds 17 and 18 of the championship at Silverstone on Sunday (30/31 August).

Leading the newcomers will be Sean Paul Breslin, who joins pacesetting Team Parker Racing for what is initially a one-off entry. Breslin has extensive experience in international endurance racing, having competed regularly in VLN races on the Nordschleife at the Nurburgring, as well as in four 24-hour races in Dubai and at the Nurburgring.

Now, Breslin will make his Carrera Cup debut alongside title contenders Michael Caine and Tim Bridgman in the TPR squad. "I was looking to start racing in the UK and wanted a good platform for sponsors. I like the Carrera Cup cars," said Breslin, who has previously only raced once in Britain, which was at Brands Hatch back in 2005. He recently tested with Team Parker Racing at Silverstone and will now tackle the pair of races on the National circuit, competing in the pro-am1 category.

Meanwhile, joining the Apex Tubulars/Qserv squad for the Silverstone weekend will be Alasdair McCaig, racing alongside Tommy Dreelan in the team's pro-am2 cars. McCaig is the son of Ecurie Ecosse patron Hugh, and has experience of racing in karts, Formula Ford and Caterhams.

Lining up to race the PCGB entry in the pro category will be current British F3 contender Nick Tandy, one of the finalists in the 2007 McLaren/Autosport/BRDC Young Driver of the Year Award. Having cut his teeth in short oval racing, Tandy progressed through Formula Ford into British F3 and has been a podium finisher in recent F3 races.

The final member of the quartet of newcomers is Mark McAleer, the 2007 champion from the Porsche Club Championship. He earns his prize drive weekend in the PCGB pro-am2 Carrera Cup car as part of the support given to Porsche Club GB Motorsport.

The debut of this quartet of drivers will mean that 40 drivers will have raced in the 2008 Carrera Cup GB by the Silverstone weekend.
