PREVIEW FOR ROUNDS 15 AND 16 OF BTCC
SNETTERTON NIGHT RACE
The www.theAA.com MSA British Touring Car Championship heads South for rounds 15 and 16, hosted at the Norfolk based circuit Snetterton. The added advantage for spectators this weekend is that Snetterton is the second of only two allocated night race meetings, which has always proved a real crowd favourite.
The track is known for having fast back straights and slow corners, which at the best of times gives way to exciting door handle to door handle racing, but when racing in the dark, even the drivers don't know what to expect!
The last time the team visited the circuit was the 16th of July, for an unofficial test granted by TOCA, the data that was gathered from this most recent test shows initially that Snetterton will be complimentary to the 406 Coupes design.
In recent weeks there has also been much speculation as to the appearance of Dan Eaves for this weekend's racing, after a weekend fraught with disaster at Knockhill. Escaping all his problems with minor bumps and bruises Dan Eaves is more confident than ever that the Peugeot 406 Coupe will be a strong contender in rounds 15 and 16.
Dan Eaves said 'I experienced a lot of problems at Knockhill, and after my collision quite a lot of damage was done, so the boys have started from scratch on a new shell. We have also made quite a few modifications to the suspension which will help us gain some time on the Vauxhalls.'
Steve Soper, despite his wealth of experience still finds the night race far more demanding than any other, Steve said: 'It's much harder to drive at night than it is in daylight. You can get decent times because its much cooler and the engine works better, but it takes far more out of you in terms of concentration.'
Aaron Slight won't be attending this race meeting, but recently appeared with his 406 Coupe for a crowd-pleasing demo at Brands Hatch for the World Super Bike meeting last weekend. Aaron is eager to get behind the wheel again and back into the BTCC, after his blistering first performance at Donington for rounds 11 and 12.
Vic Lee, Team Principal and company Managing Director said: 'Knockhill was a bit of a set-back for us, but that's motor racing for you. We are constantly re-evaluating the cars and their performance, and hope the changes we've made for Snetterton will have an impact on the Vauxhalls lap times. We are still very positive about the 406, and its potential on-track performance.'
