| Harrison and Plato take poles
Production Class Qualifying
Production class qualifying for tonight's racing at Snetterton ended with Simon Harrison on pole position in his HTML Peugeot 306, ahead of Simon Graves in second. Gavin Pyper took third position in his Alfa Romeo, and Gareth Howell was pleased to consolidate on the early potential which he has shown here at the Norfolk circuit. Howell, who has failed to score at either of the last two meetings, and as a result is not carrying success ballast, will be hoping for a change in his fortunes when the racing gets underway this evening.
The top five in the Production class was rounded out by James Kaye's Barwell Honda Accord. Team Kaliber/Barwell team manager Mark Lemmer is himself racing this weekend, for the Synchro Motorsport team, and qualified in eleventh position. The two female entrants here at Snetterton, Annie Templeton and Joanna Clarke, have qualified together in 15th and 16th positions.
Touring Class Qualifying
Championship Leader Jason Plato has extended his lead over team-mate Yvan Muller before the racing has even started at Snetterton. By taking pole position for both sprint and feature races, he picks up two additional championship points. The sprint race will see Egg Sport driver Phil Bennett line up alongside him on the front row for the first time this season, with Muller and Thompson in third and fourth respectively. Despite being on the front row, Bennett is slightly disappointed, having led the session until one and a half minutes before the end, when Jason Plato managed to go faster. The four Astra Coupes are followed on the grid by the Peugeots of Soper and Eaves, and then Tommy Erdos in the Lexus IS200, and Tom Ferrier's Alfa Romeo 146. Ferrier's team mate, Tim Harvey, failed to make it on to the track for qualifying, and is unlikely to start either race due to problems with his car.
The second spot on the grid for the Feature race is filled by Yvan Muller, ahead of Bennett in third and Thompson fourth. Tommy Erdos is best of the rest for the Feature, out-qualifying both Peugeots, and Tim Ferrier in the Alfa Romeo.
The weather at Snetterton is currently warm and dry, and despite starting to spit with rain earlier, looks set to stay clear. However this could easily change and could yet play a part in the outcome of tonight's races.
