BTC-Production Sprint Race Report
With all cars getting away from the grid successfully, the first corner saw
Techspeed runner, Paul O'Neill, who qualified an impressive fifth on the
grid, roll his car through 360 degrees. This saw the safety car come out on
to the track before there had been time for any real racing. The safety car
came back in to the pits at the end of lap 3, with Simon Harrison leading
from Gavin Pyper and Roger Moen. Close racing followed between Harrison and
Pyper, but in the mean time, GR racer Gareth Howell moved up to third place,
and then closed up on the battle at the front. On lap seven, Howell then
passed Pyper to go second. However Roger Moen repassed him at Druids shortly
after. Jim Edwards Jnr and then Colin Blair both retired from the race, with
Blair's trip in to the gravel at Paddock causing the safety car to come out
once again. The order at this stage was Harrison, Moen, Howell, Kaye,
Collard. The safety car came off the track on lap 12, leaving Gareth Howell
to battle with James Kaye once again. Kaye successfully passed Howell for
third at Druids, before being shown the black and orange flag on lap 14
because of damage to his car. There was limited action at the front end of
the field after this, with Harrison taking the chequered flag from team
mate, Roger Moen and then Gareth Howell in third.
Driver Quotes:
Gareth Howell - "The car was good through the corners, and I'm very pleased
with how it was running. I'm on the podium, which is the next best thing
after winning, and Mat (Jackson) ran well as well. I was actually a bit
worried because he was catching me towards the end."
