BTC-Touring Sprint Race Report
Unlike with the production class race, all the BTC Touring cars made it
through Paddock Bend on the first lap, with Yvan Muller turning his pole
position in to a race lead. Phil Bennett and Matt Neal came together at
Graham Hill Bend, leaving Neal with body damage to his car, and more
importantly, well down the field. The JSM Alfa of Dave Pinkney only made it
as far as lap 2 before smoke started appearing from under the bonnet. He
continued for another lap before pulling up at the end of the pit lane on
lap 3. By this time, the four Astra Coupes were out in front, with Eaves
being the closest of the Peugeot challengers. Steve Soper made a trip in to
the pit lane, but did re-emerge, albeit a lap down. This didn't stop him
from causing problems for Muller and Plato as they came round to lap him.
There were no further changes in the order, with Muller coming home in a
time of 10.02.244, just over half a second ahead Plato.
Driver Quotes:
Yvan Muller - "I'm pleased - I won. There was a yellow car doing funny
things out there - I don't understand what he was doing. At least he knows
how good we are now."
Jason Plato- "We all want to win obviously, but second's good! The car feels
better today. I wasn't happy with it yesterday, but the setup's better now.
It's not quite as good as we wanted, but I'm second, I got the points, and
in the end, points mean prizes."
