Controversy struck yet again at Silverstone during the Feature Race. A last lap battle between Vauxhall Motorsport team-mates Yvan Muller and Jason Plato ended with Muller losing the lead and dropping to third, and Jason Plato taking victory - until the clerk of the course stepped in, that is. Plato was later handed his second 30 second penalty of the season, giving Thompson the victory and promoting Muller to second. This leaves Plato leading the championship by five points from Muller, with four races left to run. The Sprint race saw Phil Bennett take his first BTCC victory.
Rounds 21 & 22 at Silverstone circuit, Northants, will see the much awaited arrival of the WSR prepared MG team in the Touring class. The team has been developing the car throughout the year and plans to use the final three meetings of the season for evaluation purposes ahead of a full season of racing in 2002. Anthony Reid and Warren Hughes will be driving the pair of MG ZS cars, and will be joining and ever more competitive class. The last meeting out at Oulton Park saw the Peugeot Coupes of Steve Soper and Dan Eaves more competitive than at any point this season, whilst the Astra Coupe drivers continue to battle it out for the championship.
