Production class qualifying early this afternoon brought no real surprises as far as the
order at the front is concerned. Harrison and Moen took first and second positions
respectively, with the GA-Janspeed Alfa Romeo of Gavin Pyper in third. Paul O'Neill put
in an impressive time to go fourth, showing that the Peugeot 306 really is the car to
beat. James Kaye was 5th, with his new Barwell/Team Kaliber Sport team mate Simon Graves
only managing to qualify in 10th position. Returning after a two meting absence,
Bintcliffe Sport runner Matt Kelly put his Primera in 6th spot. The first of the GR
Motorsport drivers, Gareth Howell managed to take 7th, despite completing only 6 laps
after going off at Abbey for the second time today. Kraemer, Ruokonen and Graves
completed the top ten for the Production class. Rob Collard had his time disqualified
after failing to stop at the weighbridge.
The Touring class qualifying session saw the four Astra Coupes topping the times once
again, with Muller and Plato on the front row for both races. For the feature race, Phil
Bennett is 3rd ahead of Egg:Sport team mate Thompson, and the two swap round for the
Sprint race. Soper took fifth, moving closer to the Vauxhalls than at any point so far
this season, and Dan Eaves is sixth. Luby, Pinkney and then Tim Harvey make up the
remainder of the Touring Class grid.
