Rounds 7 & 8 @ Silverstone
Sprint Race Report - Round 7
Victory for Plato as darkness draws in

As a the lights turned green, the Touring class cars pulled away from the line, and Yvan Muller converted his pole position in to the race lead, with 888 team-mate Plato in second. 10 seconds later the green flag dropped, signalling the start of the race for the Production runners. Positions at the front remained unchanged, but further back, Tom Boardman made yet another lightning getaway but later on the same lap his battle with Matt Kelly allowed Gareth Howell to pass both and move up to 5th position.

Dave Allan ran off the track at the approach to Becketts, but managed to recover, as did Annie Templeton. Simon Harrison led from Moen, Pyper and Paul O'Neill before Pyper spun at Becketts. Back in the Touring class, Muller and Plato were already swapping paint, and Phil Bennett was third ahead of Thompson. The Egg Sport runners weren't afraid of fighting with each other either, with Thompson taking the inside line on lap three, before being forced on to the kerb, and then the grass, and then dropping back slightly before making the move stick at the second attempt. Plato also managed to find a way past Muller on the same lap.

At the front of the Production class, and the race overall, Harrison was still pressurising Moen, and along with Paul O'Neill, they pulled away from the rest of the field. Lap five saw Gareth Howell drop out of the race due to transmission problems. A couple of laps later and the Touring class leaders were making their way through the field, allowing Thompson to close up on second-placed Muller.

Lap 11 of 15 saw the order at the front remain unchanged, with Mat Jackson fourth and James Kaye fifth before Harrison's pressurising paid off, and Moen locked up at Becketts, allowing his team-mate to take the lead.

By the end of the race, Jason Plato managed to move up to third overall, but the Touring class leader couldn't catch the HTML Peugeots. Harrison won from Moen, and Paul O'Neill was third in the class, taking his first podium finish of the season. Plato, Muller and Thompson made up the Touring class podium.

Driver Quotes

Plato - "The car was really good at - just a little bit stronger than Yvan's, and that really matters here. It's nice to get a win here, but there's nothing between us really. It was good fun."

Muller - "I had a problem with understeer. I struggled in qualifying, but now it's even worse. We changed a few things, the I'm now a bit lost - I don't know what to do.
I tried to shut the door at the start, I thought the set-up would be bad for five laps, and then get better after, but it didn't, so I decided to fight less, and be careful."

Thompson - "We stripped the car completely after qualifying, and I've gone 5 tenths quicker in the race than I did in qualifying, so there were obviously some problems there. It was a lot of work, so all credit to the team for getting it done."

Harrison - "That was flat out from start to finish. Roger went ballistically and I had to try to stay with him. Then he made a mistake and I had to push hard again."
