Round 12

Yvan Muller: It was a tough race. I took the lead early but that’s because James (Thompson) didn’t push too hard. He knew I wasn’t carrying any weight. After four laps my water temperature was over five degrees so I was very worried but I continued to push. The pit stop was a busy one. Many others stopped at the same time so I lost a little time but I was still only ten seconds behind Andy Priaulx. We had a good fight and I passed him. It was hard because the water temperature was maximum and there was a bit of smoke on the exit of some corners. There was oil on a part of the circuit but I didn’t know it was oil as it was difficult to see. It made it a tough race.

When Priaulx went out of pits his bumper was already off a little. I touched him a little bit but then his rear bumper fell off when he touched the tyres in the chicane. I was worried because if it fallen off completely, it would hit my car!

Anthony Reid: The guys worked hard after the first race after my blow out but my engine did not feel good at the start of the second race. It was quite poor. It was misfiring so I dropped back a bit. After the pit stops the engine cleared up and improved and my lap times came down. I pulled a few overtaking manoeuvres on Priaulx, Neal and Eaves and got up to third. But the engine was not as good as the first race. Not a bad result. It was a missed opportunity in first race but nothing could be done. We can do better that’s for sure.

Andy Priaulx: It’s very good for the team to score a podium finish. We have really improved and it’s the result we’ve been waiting for. The car is getting better all the time and we can still improve. We know it will get harder as time goes on, but it’s good to be challenging at the front. We were disappointed with the first race, but we got on the podium in the end. Snetterton will suit us and it’s a track that we have tested on and that we have data for. Hopefully we will be strong.

Norman Simon: I am very happy with this weekend. It was completely unexpected and a bit lucky really. My clutch went after the chequered flag! The team worked very hard though, so it’s a good reward. We didn’t have to put weight on after the first race because the car is so heavy anyway, but James (Kaye) did. I managed to pull away quite steadily. It’s unbelievable, and a credit to the team.

Spencer Marsh: It was a very quiet race. I had a big gap behind me and the team just told me to bring the car home which is what I did! The car is as good as it’s going to get, the rest has to come from me. My aim was to come here and catch James Kaye a bit and pull away from Jim Edwards Jnr. Instead Kaye has pulled further away, a BMW is on the same points as me and Edwards Jnr is three points closer.

We’ve got work to do before Snetterton and if we can start finishing Sprint Races as well as Feature Races then it will be a lot better. I’ll be happy with second place in the championship overall but first would be nice but I look around and there are guys surrounding me who have been in this game a lot longer than I have so I’m just going to do the best I can.
