Driver Quotes - Sprint Race
Colin Turkington: I started towards the back of the grid but I made a few places up at the start. I passed the two Peugeots of Harvey and Eaves and then the safety car came out. Something happened to the MG of Warren Hughes and then Gareth Howell went off so once I was leading I had to make sure I didn’t do anything silly and just concentrate on the rest of the race which was pretty quiet once it settled down. The car was behaving well and we had a really good balance. I tried to stay off the kerbs because they were really slippy. It was tough as we were not on a full wet set up, just wet tyres.
James Thompson: Ultimately the pace we had was good enough for third place. Matt was quicker and that was it really. Off the start everybody seemed intent on damaging their cars and the key thing for me was just to finish the race. I wasn’t unduly worried, I’ve got enough experience to know the car was going to be reasonably quick.
Eventually I passed people - neat and tidy, no risks, no problems. Ultimately you’re not going to compete against people 60kg lighter than you. You can do a couple of quick laps in qualifying to get up there, but over the course of a race distance, particularly in the wet where you’re going even slower, it makes it hard work.
Yvan and I were so close and we kept repassing one another. It was a good old dice! Once things settled down we had a similar pace and it was just about bringing it home which we did. It was very important for me to finish.
Andy Priaulx: I had an incident with Anthony Reid at McIntyre's. The Honda was slow in that part of the track and I’d have done same that he did. Reid has been dirty but I’ve looked at footage and it was a fair move on me. The MG's have been quick but if you look at the last three events, the Honda has got the edge. And there's more to come. We can make the car go faster and faster but I’m not expecting miracles. It would be nice to go to Brands Hatch and win but with the ballast it will be hard.
Norman Simon: I’m really pleased. We knew it was going to be hard. I’ve never been here in the wet so we knew it wouldn’t be easy. I had quite a good start, quite exciting. The problems I had were really inside the car. My wipers stopped working and the windscreen fogged up, especially towards the end. The last 5 laps, I really couldn’t see anything, so I really had to take it easy. It was a good race. We showed that we are as quick as the Alfa round here, even a bit quicker when it started to dry out. It’s good for the team and good to get more points. The team did a good job as they always do.
Gavin Pyper: I’m quite happy really. It was great to get two poles. It was quite a hard race as well because Norman was catching me one lap, and then I was quicker. I don’t mind the rain really. We didn’t have time to make changes to the car because of the rain but it was a good result. It was 50-50 out there between our car and the BMW. We were both quicker on different parts of the circuit.
