Team Halfords British Touring Cars will be heading for the hills this weekend as the brave hearted orange and black 406 coupes prepare for a Scottish battle. Knockhill race circuit in Fife is the nominated venue for combat as the closely contested Championship moves closer to the final stages.
The three Peugeots suffered minimal body and structural damage at Snetterton in the last round. The team will be concentrating fully on maximising the development of the 406 coupes performance during recent months, focusing mainly on engine reliability and the geometrical set-up for their trip North.
Knockhill circuit, a favourite of touring car legend and Team Halfords driver, Tim Harvey, is one of the more demanding circuits on the TOCA tour. Harvey comments: ‘Throughout my years racing I have always looked forward to competing at Knockhill. The circuit is demanding, both technically and physically, as the 1.3mile track keeps you constantly working, but I have quite a lot of experience round here which I hope will work in my favour.’
Dan Eaves, currently lying in second position for the Independent’s Cup will be hot on the heels of front running Aaron Slight and his Barwell Astra. Eaves comments: ‘We have three rounds left of this season, and Aaron is only 6 points ahead of me, so I am going to focus on Team Halfords being top of the Independents table by the close of the Championship, which would be a really positive end to the year for us.’
Rookie touring car driver Carl Breeze, after his most successful BTCC racing performance yet at Snetterton (finishing 6th in the Feature race), has taken time out from the racetrack to visit Team Halfords headquarters in Coventry, for the purpose of studying the data acquisition side to motorsport. Breeze commented: ‘I have always been interested in data analysis; I try to go to the workshop after each race weekend to study my performance data. It is a real help to see in detail what I have or haven’t been doing, it gives me a clearer idea of where I can improve.’
