Indy Cup Goes Down To The Wire For Team Halfords BTCC Grand Finale
As the Green Flag MSA British Touring Car Championship races towards Donington Park this weekend, Team Halfords looks set to close its first year in the nation's premier saloon car series with a celebratory finale.
Regardless of the results that will unfold throughout Sunday's racing, Team Halfords has proved their might against rival manufacture and Independent teams and, with the results they have achieved this year, can look back with pride and satisfaction.
Past champion and second position Independent Cup contender Tim Harvey comments: 'In 1992 when I took the BTCC Championship title I remember going into the final round in much the same situation as Team Halfords is in now. There were four of us in line for the title then and I went in as the underdog but rose to the challenge. This time, with points to make up and success ballast from my podium finish at Brands Hatch, I'll certainly have a challenge, but that's the way I like it!'
Dan Eaves, currently running third in the Independents cup and only one point behind team mate Harvey, commented: 'Donington is a good circuit for me, and I went really well here last year finishing the Feature race in 4th position, only 7/10th of a second behind Yvan Muller. So with the developments we've made to the car not only over the winter but throughout the season I will certainly expect to be on the podium.'
Team Halfords resident Formula Renault champion Carl Breeze joined the team mid-season, and after only one test day in the 406 Coupe jumped into the driver's seat to take up his position in Team Halford's third car. Carl comments: 'I am confident of scoring two good results to finish the year. The Grand Prix track is one of my favourites; the Craner Curves are certainly one of the best corners to drive in the UK. Having had my only Toca test of the year here, I feel I am more prepared and more confident as I have some prior knowledge and experience to look back on.'
Also on track for race day, spectators will be treated to the amazing sights of Team Halfords mountain bike trials riders, Chris Towes and Si Harvey, who will be performing their latest amazing tricks from 12.00 o'clock onwards.
