Sprint Race - Driver Quotes

Round 1 - Driver Quotes:

Matt Neal: "I'm a bit speechless actually. I thought it was Yvan's day, he'd been solid in the race. For the first two thirds of the race I kept the pressure on. I thought maybe he would make a mistake. I wasn't going to do anything silly. The last few laps, I was driving like I was on eggshells - I thought I was in line for a puncture. Sweet."

Dan Eaves: "I had so much understeer at the start of the race but after few laps behind the safety car the tyres came in and I was all over the back of Tim Harvey for a few laps. Towards the end of the race, I had Paul O'Neill all over the back of me. I was blocking everywhere and I held the middle of the track and he tried to go round the outside but he went straight on and out. This year’s car is a lot better but there are still improvements to be made. There always are."

Tom Chilton: "The race was very interesting. It was my first ever start so it went pretty well. Not too shabby! I'm still learning a lot about the car and the track conditions are always changing. The reception I got from the fans was fantastic. I felt like I was meant to be there. It was great."

Norman Simon: "It was a good race - very interesting. I didn't start the weekend too well. On Saturday I did three laps before I had suspension failure, and totally destroyed the car. The team repaired the car but then it was very difficult to drive, but we found some things to change and it was better. I got a very good start to the race, and especially the first two laps. Towards the end, I couldn't pull away but I managed to hold the gap."

Rob Collard: "It's a brilliant result for the team; they've all worked so hard. I'm absolutely delighted. The BMW had more power. I was faster through the corners, but just couldn't close on Simon. Tom Boardman did me a lot of good actually - he was like a mobile chicane out there. He held others up and I managed to get away and build up a gap. I hope the car will go well this afternoon. We're fourth on the grid, and if I can get away cleanly it should be another good race."

Spencer Marsh: "I had a horrendous start and I had to lift or I would have hit Saunders in front of me, but I survived. Beacon Motorsport is a new team, but this is a great result. It was important not to do too much damage to the car; the priority was to bring it home safely. At one point my teammate tried to come up the inside of me and there was some contact. I'll have a quiet word with him later!"

Mark Fullalove: "I was going great, I got passed Simon just after Dingle Dell but he kept his nose alongside me. I had to let Warren Hughes through and Simon pushed me into the gravel at Clearways. I can confirm that Paul O'Neill had a puncture before he even got to the corner. He was robbed."
