The Green Flag MSA British Touring Car Championship visits Cheshire based race circuit Oulton Park this weekend for the second leg of this ten round series. Team Halfords, after performing astoundingly not only in the first round at Brands Hatch but also at the subsequent Thruxton testing session, feels sure that this circuit will prove to be a winning combination for the team.
Oulton Park is a physically and technically demanding track, with a fusion of tight and fast corners that wear heavily on the brakes. Team Halfords advantage of no excess ballast will help the 406 Coupe in its continuing battle for supremacy.
Fans of the distinctive orange and black BTCC entrant, may also have noticed the No. 5 race car on display at last weekend’s National Custom and Sports Car Show sponsored by Ripspeed at Halfords (the performance and styling sub-brand of the UK’s leading automotive retailer). The car formed part of the Ripspeed display, giving visitors the chance to see it up close and personal. Thousands of people turned out to enjoy a huge display of modified cars, hot rods and American classics at the show held at Doncaster Racecourse.
During the weeks since Brands Hatch, the drivers and team alike have been focusing on the car’s set up for Oulton Park, a circuit that has never been particularly kind on the 406 Coupe. Both Dan Eaves and Tim Harvey quote this circuit as being their preferred racing venue.
Harvey commented: ‘The Cheshire circuit has long be a favourite of mine, and I have enjoyed much success here, especially in recent years, and I intend to put this to my advantage. After an unfortunate weekend for me at Brands Hatch I’ll certainly be looking for a podium position, providing someone tells some of the less experienced drivers amongst us where and where not to brake!’
Vic Lee, Team Halfords Principal commented: ‘Oulton Park is a hard circuit for all cars, but it always seems to be particularly taxing on the 406 Coupe. We will need to qualify well on Saturday, as the start grid can usually determine who survives the first corner. Tim has had a lot experience here, so we will be looking to get as much feedback on the car’s handling as we can in the test sessions.’
