Feature Race Driver Quotes
Round 8
Anthony Reid: Before the pit stop the car was flying and I felt I had the measure of James Thompson. The car balance was good and then I came into the pits and had a fantastic stop and they got me back out ahead of James. The car felt okay for a couple of laps but it didn't feel as good as it had done before the stop as we had a used tyres on the front and the balance just wasn't working for me. James was a shade quicker. When he passed me coming out of Copse, I had a go at diving up inside him at Becketts but he was quicker. I'm sure there will be plenty more opportunities.
We've really turned a corner with MG in the last couple of weeks. The car has improved significantly and the pole position was evidence of that and further supported by Warren Hughes' win in the Sprint Race. In a way that put a little bit more pressure on me to win and I'm disappointed not to but my car felt capable of winning before the pit stop. But it's been a stunning weekend. It doesn't get much better than this but we're going for two race wins next time!
Tim Harvey: The car was good and we finished up there and caught some Vauxhalls and Hondas so that's a good shout really.
James Thompson: The car's good. I had a good start and stayed out of trouble but the opportunity was there to pass. Paul O'Neill let me pass him at the Hairpin. I must thank him for that one! I was in second and had to catch Anthony Reid as quickly as possible but he was really quick in the first part of the race and we were on equal terms as far as weight was concerned and I was struggling to hunt him down at that part of the race. I had saved my best set of tyres for the pit stop and the guys did a great job which meant we took a bit of time from Reid there. Once we got going I knew it was only a matter of time as my car was much better. I had a lot more oversteer which suited the circuit so I managed to sneak up on him. He was wrestling with the car at Copse and I passed him at Becketts after we had a playful nudge. After that I disappeared. The car was so good the second part of the race and I relax when I'm leading a race so I drive better. I'm pleased to get the fastest lap as well. I had to work for it though!
James Kaye: We finished second on the track but first in the points, as Kelvin (Burt) can't score points. I'm quite happy, it was a very good race. I had a spin at Copse a few laps in to the race but managed to maintain my place and the pace, and in the end we scored maxmum points.
Matt Neal: I'm just glad to be back on the podium - it seems like such a long time! It's great to see the other manufacturers up there as it spices things up a bit. I had a great dice with Paul (O'Neill) out there. He's really improving at every race, and he's almost learning too much too quickly. He's really giving me a run for my money out there!
If I've had a criticism over the years, it's that I've not been consistent enough, so that is my aim for this year. I was disappointed with what happened at Oulton Park and I just want to avoid making mistakes.
Mondello Park will be interesting. I've only raced there once before and that was 12 years ago, so it will be new territory for me. I know very little about the track compared to the others.
Paul O'Neill: I made a good rolling start but I was conscience of the fact the car felt nervous on the warm up lap. James Thompson caught me so I waved him through as he was lighter than me. I was in third place and the car started to feel strong. I hsd oversteer which was working great going through the complex and Copse. I got the tyres dirty going through Copse so I slowed and let Matt Neal go past. Then came the pit stop which was fantastic. The team did a great job. I pushed hard on my out lap then I saw Matt Neal coming out of the pit lane after his stop. His tyres were cold so I was right on his tail and I managed to get past him after he out braked himself. My car started to feel nervous again so Matt overtook me at the hairpin.
It was a fantastic weekend and I'm pleased to be in contention for a top four finish in the championship.
