MG Sport and Racing's Warren Hughes topped the timesheets at the end of today's official TOCA test at Snetterton - recording the fastest-ever lap of the Norfolk circuit by a current specification BTCC car. It was a good day for MG, with all four cars currently competing in the Touring Class setting times in the top ten overall.
The day long test - which was punctuated by a rain shower around lunchtime - enabled the WSR team to do some serious testing of the MG ZS 260s of Warren and Anthony Reid, and Warren showed the value of that track time by setting the quickest time on his final timed lap of the day.
“Th! is is the first opportunity the team has had to run both new race cars back-to-back on a full test day,” said Warren, “and it's been a really useful exercise for us. We've made very good progress and visited a lot of new stuff that we've been scared to try over a race weekend. It's filled us with optimism.” - Hughes
Anthony was fifth quickest, with Team Atomic Kitten racers Colin Turkington and Gareth Howell finishing the day eighth and ninth.
"We had a good, productive day. We tried lots of new things away from our normal base-line set-up, which were productive. Anthony (Reid) would have gone quicker had it not been for a red flag. We have improved the chassis and are really looking forward to our new spec engine for Silverstone." - Team principal, Dick Bennetts
