VAUXHALL RULES THE ROOST AT TOCA TEST
Vauxhall Motorsport's Yvan Muller was back with a vengeance today setting
the day's fastest time of 1m41.026s for the British Touring Car
Championship's fifth official Toca Test which took place at Donington Park.
Hot on his heels was team mate and current championship points leader, James
Thompson with the day's third fastest time of 1m41.234s. Egg Sport Astra
Coupe driver, Matt Neal was a mere 0.015 seconds behind giving Vauxhall
Astra Coupe drivers three of the top four spots at the end of the day's two
test sessions which took place largely in dry conditions.
"Having not attended the Thruxton or Snetterton tests, it was important for
us to be here today," commented Muller. The Frenchman had spent much of the
day concentrating on race simulations but was at the forefront of the day's
activities having dominated the morning session before being pipped into
second at the last minute by Honda's Andy Priaulx. The red flag interrupted
second session, however, saw Muller stamp his authority over his rivals,
setting his fastest time in the closing stages of the afternoon. Thompson,
who had also spent much of the day working on a race set-up for his Astra
Coupe, was similarly pleased with the day's work.
The Egg Sport Astra Coupe drivers had a mixed day meanwhile with Paul
O'Neill posting fourth fastest time in the first session whilst his teammate
Neal sat much of it out. Neal came back in determined mood though at the end
of the second session posting fourth fastest time overall. |
