Paul O’Neill: I didn’t cry! It was a big thing for me today because that incident at Brands Hatch hurt me and all this weekend I’ve been thinking about it. I thought if I could win this weekend then it would make up for that. It’s a dream come true to win it and to get a Vauxhall 1-2-3. I had good clean fights with Yvan (Muller) and James (Thompson).
I was a bit quicker than them after ballast so that was really working for me. I knew I was lighter. If we were all zero ballast then James and Yvan would have been quicker than me but as it stands, the ballast worked for me. That’s what it put there for is to let people like me – fat scousers – win races!
The best thing I can do now is get third in the championship. That would be a real achievement.
James Thompson: I knew it was going to be tough around here particularly with the temperature so I’m happy with second. It was so tricky around the track as it was so dusty so I’m pleased with what I came away with. The tyres were being worked so hard and because of that you get a combination of slides and then a lot understeer because of the heat so you end up with a mixed bag.
From a championship point of view, it’s good for me to take points from Yvan. Our pace in that race was pretty good considering the ballast on board.
Yvan Muller: I was lucky at the start because there was a car sideways and I struggled to avoid that. Matt made a little mistake because there was a lot of dust and it made it possible for me to pass him. I am happy with third place.
