Team Halfords this weekend headed due east to Snetterton race circuit in Norfolk, for rounds 13 and 14 of the Green Flag MSA British Touring Car Championship.
Dan Eaves had the best team finish of the day as he claimed a 4th in the Independents class and 12th overall in the second race.
Dan Eaves commented: ‘I’m pleased that we got a finish in the second race. All the points really count at this critical point in the Championship, and I’m going all out to defend my title for the last three rounds. The car is good as demonstrated at Croft, we just need to hit a better level of consistency.’
The Norfolk track temperature soared to over 37 degrees and tested the Team Halfords new model 307’s to the limit.
In race one both Danny and Dan made a quick start, which saw Danny dashing down the inside of rival Independent Gareth Howell, elevating his position to 11th on only the first lap and third into the Independents cup. Dan attacked from 15th position up into 12th by the first corner. Yet disaster hit for Dan, as Proton’s David Leslie went crashing into Carl Breeze, who in turn ricocheted into Dan leaving him with substantial damage.
Danny also suffered at the hands of misfortune, when on lap 11 he had an engine failure, which left him out of the race.
In race two there was a further racing incident when Paul Wallace’s Vauxhall Astra Coupe leaked oil onto the track surface creating treacherous racing conditions for both Dan and Danny who were chasing close behind. Both cars hit the oil, Dan was able to hold his line, but Danny Buxton hit the worst of it and span out of the race. Dan battled onto the end to collect valuable points for the team.
Team Halfords now have plans to undergo a gruelling testing schedule before the next Championship race meeting. With a new engine evolution in sight, there will be a lot to test before their next appearance.
Team Halfords will be in action again at Brands Hatch for rounds 15 and 16 of the BTCC for the Bank Holiday weekend on the 24th and 25th August.
