Brands Hatch Indy circuit in Kent saw Team Halfords new Peugeot 307 take to the track in front of a 40,000 strong crowd for the second round of the Green Flag MSA British Touring Car Championship.
Driver Dan Eaves held the lead of race one for several laps, gathering valuable points for the team. Unfortunately, a delayed pit-stop saw Eaves lose a couple of places. After defending his position from rival independent James Kaye, Eaves finished second in the Independents category and 11th overall.
Driver Carl Breeze, determined to make up for a non-appearance in race one due to an oil leak, finished second in the Independents cup in race two, for his first completed BTCC event in the new model Peugeot 307, despite being hampered by having no clutch from his pit stop onwards.
Breeze commented: ‘I’m really pleased to have finished, as I had no clutch for most of the race. I was able to lead the Independents class for ten laps, then come away with second in class. I’m confident that the car will be great, after a bit more testing. We will be flying in time for the next round at Thruxton.’
Eaves also started strongly in race two, but a engine problem forced him to pit, and was subsequently ruled unable to rejoin the race.
Eaves commented: ‘Considering this is our second outing in the cars, I am amazed that they can already size up to the other touring cars. The team have gathered some valuable data from this weekend, we can see where the car’s strengths and weaknesses are. It’s all good!’
Team Halfords will be back in action on the 12th May, as they head to Pembrey in Wales for their first test of the season. Both drivers will be attending the session to give the cars a proper shake-down under the watchful eye of Team Boss Vic Lee.
