Team Halfords: TEAM HALFORDS MAKE PROGRESS AND INCREASE POINTS

TEAM HALFORDS MAKE PROGRESS AND INCREASE POINTS

Team Halfords this weekend made their best showing so far for round 10 of the British Touring Car Championship (BTCC) as Carl Breeze and Dan Eaves finished second and third in the Independents cup claiming 12 and 10 points respectively.

The BTCC debuted at Rockingham Motorspeedway in Corby Northamptonshire, and the newest venue addition to the BTCC calendar was witness to the turbo charged saloon cars bumper to bumper action for the first time.

Dan and Carl had tested at this circuit last season, and despite the new model of the cars they were confident their previous experience would pay dividends for the race.

Race 2 saw a marked improvement in both cars performance. Dan and Carl who respectively lined up on the grid in 14th and 15th both made a penetrating start and after only one lap had moved up into 11th and 12th position, pulling up just behind rival independents Gavin Pyper and Rob Collard in their Vauxhall Astra’s.

Dan continued his onslaught and was running in an overall position of seventh and first in the Independents cup, until misfortune hit the number 0 Peugeot, and Dan had to revisit the pit lane for a second pit stop to replace his missing left front wheel. A safety car period pulled the packed together again and when the race restarted it was all systems go.

After a concerted effort from both Carl and Dan they together crossed the chequered flag one in front of the other claiming second and third place for the independents cup and ninth and tenth position overall.

Carl Breeze commented: ‘I’m really pleased we managed a good result in the second race, this is my best result this season. We made some decent developments to the car so the team is really looking forward to seeing further improvements at Croft.’

Race 1 saw Dan and Carl involved in racing incidents that left both cars unable to finish.

Team Halfords will be in action at Croft in Darlington on Sunday 13th July for rounds 11 and 12 of the Green Flag MSA British Touring Car Championship.
