Team PSP: Team PSP on the pace but out of luck at Oulton Park
Race results - Rounds 11, 12, and 13 - Sunday 23 May
After a season's-best qualifying performance from both drivers, Team PSP had high hopes for Oulton Park. However, a rare engine failure and a series of race incidents gave Team PSP's mechanics much to do between races and robbed the team of more success. On a high note, Fariqe Hairuman continued to improve with three more strong race finishes and Shaun Watson-Smith recorded another top-five best lap in round 11.
Fariqe Hairuman: "In Round 10 I had a great tussle with Hughes and managed to get past him. In both the remaining races I got caught in BTCC-style wheel-banging in the middle of the pack and suffered some car damage. I kept going and managed to bring the car home, so it was another great learning experience for me."
Shaun Watson-Smith: "Today was very disappointing. We qualified well with 8th on the grid and then my engine let go on the first lap of Round 10. That was that really, as it meant I started Round 11 from the back of the grid. It's hectic back there - I suffered contact in rounds 11 & 12, losing my splitter both times which hurt the grip and speed. I was pleased to have posted a strong best lap before the mayhem through - it just shows that we have the potential to run in the top five."
Mike Carroll: "We've had a busy day today changing Shaun's engine after the first race and replacing damaged bodywork on both cars after each of the last two races. I can't pretend I'm not disappointed having posted strong qualifying performances yesterday, but that's motorsport. We're knocking on the door of the top five - we're due some good results by now."
David Wong (Team Principal): "I'm disappointed for the team today - we weren't allowed to capitalise on our season-best qualifying performance. However, I continue to be impressed with Fariqe's ever-improving performance. Shaun too has demonstrated that we have a package that has the potential to mix with the front-runners."
