Team PSP: Strong qualifying performance boosts hopes of race rewards for Team PSP in BTCC
Qualifying - Round 13, Mondello Park Saturday 12 June 2004
Team PSP came to the Emerald Isle determined to make the most of their ever-improving PETRONAS-backed Proton Impian racecars. With some changes to their cars since the last outing at Oulton Park, both drivers were keen to get out on the long and demanding Mondello Park track. Shaun Watson-Smith kept up his excellent form with the seventh fastest time in his Impian - just over six tenths of a second shy of Muller's pole time. Fariqe Hairuman produced another solid performance in his rookie year, setting up the team for race day.
Fariqe Hairuman: "I'm pleased to have found my way round this tough track and recorded a respectable time. I'm looking forward to race day."
Shaun Watson-Smith: "We've done well today. The team has really pulled out all the stops with the car which is working well - even better than I expected on this track full of tight slow corners. Seventh on the grid and just six tenths from pole puts us right in the middle of the race winners - I'm going to make the most of this tomorrow."
David Wong, (Team Principal): " We had a good qualifying session today - we hope to be able to turn it into good race results tomorrow."
